Heritage Revival and Architectural Identity

The Blanchisserie Pafendall project is rooted in a heritage enhancement approach, transforming the 19th-century Voelker-Schumann laundry building into a contemporary residential ensemble. Positioned between Rue Vauban and the Alzette river, the site preserves its historical volumes while introducing modern extensions connected by aerial walkways and structured around a central courtyard. The use of materials such as brick, steel, and lime creates a strong connection to the site's industrial past, offering a renewed architectural interpretation that blends seamlessly with the Pfaffenthal landscape and its outstanding views over Luxembourg’s historic city center.

A New Lifestyle Between Community Spirit and Soft Mobility

Designed as a car-free village-like district, the project encourages social interaction through landscaped communal areas, generous terraces, and pedestrian-friendly pathways connecting the homes. Direct access to public transport – tram, funicular, and panoramic elevator – along with shared electric bikes and cars reflects a sustainable and forward-thinking vision of urban living. Blanchisserie offers an exceptional living environment where private comfort meets a sense of community, in a setting that is both steeped in history and oriented toward the future.
